Home / Dehumidifiers / WHD100 vs WHD120

WHD100 or WHD120?

Two ducted dehumidifiers for ongoing humidity control throughout the home.

Sentinel WHD100 and WHD120 connect to ductwork, remove moisture from the air and return drier air to the rooms. Both can work with a heating and air-conditioning system or with dedicated ducts. The WHD120 removes more moisture while keeping the same cabinet size as the WHD100. [1] [2] [3] [4]

01 · Two models

More moisture removed, same cabinet

The WHD120 has a higher moisture-removal rating and draws more current. Cabinet dimensions, weight, filter and main duct connections are the same on both models. Choosing the WHD120 therefore does not require more space for the unit itself. [1] [2] [3]

02 · Capacity

70 vs 85 pints per day at DOE conditions

At 73 °F and 60% relative humidity, the WHD120 is rated to remove 15 more pints per day, about 7.1 liters. At 80 °F and the same humidity, the listed capacities are 90 and 104 pints. Compare the models within the same test conditions. [1] [2]

Specifications from the product listings and manual. CFM means cubic feet per minute. 80 °F is about 26.7 °C. Cabinet dimensions are approximately 57.5 × 37.2 × 50.5 cm. [1] [2] [4]

*WHD100: 90 or 92 pints?

The current WHD100 listing gives 90 pints at AHAM conditions, while the Application and Functions PDF dated January 2, 2025 gives 92. The table above uses the product listing. Both documents give 70 pints at DOE conditions; the WHD120 figures agree at both test conditions. [1] [2] [3]

AlorAir lists coverage up to 2,300 sq. ft for the WHD100 and 3,000 sq. ft for the WHD120. To size a system for your home, an installer also needs to account for outdoor air and the amount of moisture entering the building. Floor area alone does not capture that load. [1] [2]

03 · Ductwork

How air moves through a WHD

Both models have 10-inch main inlet and outlet connections. A separate 6-inch connection with an electric damper handles outdoor air. The dry-air outlet can face sideways or upward, as shown in the manual. [3] [4]

The manual shows several ways to connect the dehumidifier to HVAC equipment. One arrangement lets the dehumidifier and air handler run independently; others require the HVAC fan to operate with the dehumidifier. The installer needs to choose the layout and backdraft-damper positions before fitting the ducts. [4]

The 10-inch RF-BZJPJ11 backdraft damper lists both WHD100 and WHD120 as compatible models. [8] The airflow figures in the PDF are measured at zero static pressure. To size the duct runs, the installer needs fan-performance data that accounts for resistance from the duct system. [3]

04 · Drainage and power

Gravity drainage comes standard

Neither the WHD100 nor the WHD120 has a built-in pump. Condensate drains downward through a drain line. If water must be lifted to reach the drain, the installation needs an external condensate pump with its own power supply. WHD terminals accept a signal from a pump or float switch; they do not power the pump. [4]

Drain below the unit

The drain line slopes downward without loops or sags. For rigid pipe, the manual also shows a trap and vent.

Water needs to go uphill

Include an external pump, its power supply and the water-level signal connection in the installation quote.

For both models, the manual calls for a grounded 115 V, 60 Hz GFCI outlet on a dedicated 15 A circuit. Their operating currents differ, as shown in the comparison table. [4]

05 · Controls and maintenance

A controller and a shared filter

WHD controls support relative-humidity settings and a GPP mode, which expresses moisture content in grains per pound of dry air. There are two fan speeds and A3/A4 terminals for external control. For control from a room, AlorAirCrawlspace sells the RF-KZQA07 wired controller for WHD100/120. Check what comes with your chosen package: the Application and Functions table lists the wired controller as optional. [3] [4] [7]

Both models use the three-pack of MERV-10 filters, part 160300251. The listing gives frame dimensions of 17.9 × 14 × 0.7 inches. The filter slides out through a side panel, so that side needs to remain accessible after installation. [4] [6]

The manual gives conflicting inlet and outlet clearances: PDF page 2 specifies 6 ft and 36 in, while page 5 gives 15 cm. For a tight installation, ask AlorAir to confirm the clearances for the planned duct arrangement. [4]

06 · Choosing a model

When to choose the WHD120

The WHD120 removes more moisture without taking up more space. Consider it when the home's calculated moisture load exceeds the WHD100's capacity. If both models meet the load, compare the installed cost of each.

Ask for ductwork, controls and drainage to be included in the quote. That gives you the price of the complete installation, including the accessories it needs.

WHD has separate warranty terms

AlorAir's Whole-House warranty section lists five years for defects in materials and workmanship and six years for components. Labor, shipping, removal and reinstallation are excluded. The first-two-years full-coverage wording used for other dehumidifiers does not establish WHD coverage. Ask for the terms applying to your order in writing before paying. [5]
