This alorair dehumidifier review covers a brand that differs from Aprilaire and Santa Fe in three ways. It has a user review layer: 746 entries in the Amazon sample core at an 18.8% low-rating share. Its HDi models carry a pump inside rather than as a separate purchase. And its ENERGY STAR listings sit in the Portable category, while the other two brands sit in Whole-home.

The catalogue splits into four lines: Sentinel for crawl spaces and basements, Galaxy and Helios covering the same ground on a newer refrigerant, and the ducted WHD for a whole house. The commercial Storm series sits in its own section and is covered on its own page.

I have not tested these units. This draws on manufacturer product cards and documentation, the current and archived ENERGY STAR datasets, CPSC recall records, the Amazon Reviews 2023 corpus and retailer catalogues. The registry: one machine under four brand names

In the current ENERGY STAR list, version 6.0 effective 1 October 2025, AlorAir holds four entries, all in the Portable category.

The same list shows something the product pages do not. Entries repeat under other brand names down to the second decimal.

Sentinel HD55S, Abestorm Guardian SN55S and BaseAire AirWerx 55S all return 36.33 pints at an energy factor of 2.08 and 379 kWh a year. Sentinel Pro35X and Argendon Sandidry Pro35C both return 21.27 pints at 1.9.

All four brands belong to one legal entity, AlorAir Solutions, registered in Chino, California. XDrier and AlorTec sit under it as well. By the registry, Sentinel HD55S, Abestorm Guardian SN55S and BaseAire AirWerx 55S were certified as a single machine.

The certification that is no longer current

The HDi90 does not appear in the current list.

Its only entry sits in the archived dataset, dated 9 September 2020: Portable category, 47.71 pints under the DOE procedure, an energy factor of 1.95.

Retailer listings and some of the manufacturer’s own pages continue to describe the HDi90 as certified, in places carrying the Most Efficient mark.

The wording matters here. Certification was granted under the previous version of the specification. After the move to version 6.0 the model did not carry into the current list, so its certificate should not be relied on at purchase.

The WHD line holds no active listings at all.

AlorAir dehumidifier capacity: three figures for one machine

An AlorAir product card gives capacity as two figures, and on some models as three.

Saturation is measured at 90 degrees and 90% relative humidity, conditions that do not occur in a lived-in room. It does not compare with other brands’ household figures.

One retailer listing for the ducted HDi90 assigns the same 198 pints to 95 degrees instead. Manufacturer documentation does not support that.

For the crawl-space line the manufacturer does not publish a DOE figure on its cards. It appears only in the registry and in some dealer descriptions.

The pump is built in

On HDi models the pump sits inside the unit with a 19.6-foot discharge line. The HDi65S adds a gravity backup alongside it. HD models have no pump.

The HD90 and HDi90 form the same kind of pair seen across portable brands: one model without a pump, one with, sold as separate SKUs.

Neither Aprilaire nor Santa Fe builds a pump into any model in its whole-house range; on both, the pump is external and bought separately.

Within the Galaxy line the 60P and 85P carry a pump, while the base Galaxy 60 drains by gravity alone.

Two refrigerant generations

R410A runs in the Sentinel HD55, HD55S, HD55 Blue Wi-Fi, HD90 and HDi90. R32 runs in the Sentinel HD35P and HD55P, the entire Galaxy line, the entire Helios line and the entire WHD line.

R32 is an A2L refrigerant. The Helios D35 manual requires installation by the manufacturer’s own personnel or by someone certified to handle it. Numerical requirements for room volume and service clearances are not published.

A MERV-1 filter

The standard filter across the Sentinel line is MERV-1. It ships in the box and protects the coil from coarse debris.

MERV-8 exists as a separate purchase: the manufacturer sells both, a four-pack of MERV-8 for the ducted HDi90 and a three-pack of MERV-1 for the HD90 and HDi90.

Some retailer listings describe MERV-8 as the standard fitment. The two also differ in handling: MERV-1 on the Galaxy and Helios lines is washable, while MERV-8 sells in replacement packs.

For comparison, Aprilaire fits a washable MERV 8 and Santa Fe a replaceable MERV 13.

Temperature: the newer lines sit lower

The Sentinel upper limit matches Aprilaire and exceeds the Santa Fe standalone range, which stops at 95 degrees.

The newer R32 lines sit below the older ones on this measure, at 100.4 against 104 degrees. Inside a conditioned house those four degrees change nothing; in an unheated garage or crawl space they cut into the margin before the rated limit.

An unconditioned attic in summer exceeds all of these limits, and the manufacturer publishes no direct statement about suitability for a sealed attic.

Humidity ranges run 36 to 90% on Sentinel, 35 to 90% on Galaxy and Helios, and up to 98% on WHD.

What the WHD line publishes

The ducted line launched by press release on 21 July 2025 and is documented unevenly.

Capacity comes as a pair of figures with their test conditions. External static pressure is not published anywhere in the line, and airflow arrives as two numbers, low speed and high. Aprilaire publishes airflow at three pressure values, Santa Fe at four.

Drainage is described on the cards as gravity with a pump option. Alongside it come a motorised fresh air damper, four choices of inlet and outlet orientation, and compatibility with ten-inch ductwork.

Sound output is 64 dBA on the WHD150 and 65 dBA on the WHD200. Current draw is 6.5 and 8.5 amps at 115 volts.

Warranty: three layers of one upgrade

The current scheme on the manufacturer’s site runs six years, the first two covering parts, labour and replacement. Years three through six cover the refrigeration system only, without shipping or labour. It applies to orders placed from 14 May 2026, with a window back to 14 April.

The previous scheme, still present in PDF manuals and on older retailer listings, ran one year on parts and labour, three years on the refrigeration system and five years on the compressor and parts.

The oldest text found states six months and one year.

The WHD line carries its own formula: five years on the unit and six on components.

These are time layers of a single update announced on 27 May 2026. The term follows the order date.

Reviews

AlorAir is the one brand of the three in this class with a user review layer of usable size.

Across the Amazon sample core from 1996 to 2023 the brand shows 746 reviews at an 18.8% share of one- and two-star ratings. The inclusion threshold for the ranking is 700 reviews.

Among the nineteen brands that clear that threshold, AlorAir places fourteenth. Below it sit yaufey at 6.2%, Kesnos at 9.7% and hOmeLabs at 13.2%; above it, Midea at 24.8%, Honeywell at 31.1% and Frigidaire at 31.7%.

The distribution across models is not established. An indirect reading of the brand’s own store as of September 2023 puts roughly a quarter of sales on listings marked 120 pints and about a fifth on 113 pints.

The 18.8% figure describes the brand as a whole and does not transfer to an individual model. Portable brands sit in the Florida selection guide, and crawl space sizing in the crawl space guide.

Independent measurement

I found no laboratory measurements with published figures for these units. Searches covered the brand and the lab that publishes readings for portable units. Bob Vila ran hands-on testing of the HD55 and HD55S, and of the HDi90 within its whole-house group, but reports conclusions without capacity, noise or power figures.

Recall history

No CPSC recall campaigns were found for AlorAir or its brands. The check was made on 2 September 2026.

The large dehumidifier recalls that surface in searches belong to other manufacturers. Gree Electric Appliances began recalling units in September 2013, around 2.5 million in the United States across thirteen brands, and separately on 16 August 2023 around 1.56 million units, with four possible deaths cited. New Widetech recalled around 2 million units on 4 August 2021 under number 21-174.
