AlorAir Storm LGR Extreme Review

Pump and portability. Choosing between basic and WiFi.

The AlorAir Storm LGR Extreme weighs 64.3 lb and has top carrying handles. A built-in pump drains the condensate. The basic and WiFi versions have the same rated moisture removal. Their controls and prices are where the choice differs. [1][2]

What the 180-pint rating means

AlorAir rates the unit at 180 US pints per day at 90°F and 90% relative humidity. At 80°F and 60% RH, the rating is 85 pints. A comparison with another dehumidifier needs figures measured at the same temperature and humidity. [1]

The operating range of 33.8-104°F describes the permitted air temperature. It does not mean the unit removes 85 pints per day at the bottom of that range. The materials reviewed do not include a separate performance curve for cool, dry air.

A low-profile body weighing 64.3 lb

The Extreme measures 22.8 × 13.7 × 17.3 inches and weighs 64.3 lb, about 29.2 kg. The housing has two top handles; the version shown has no wheels. That weight matters when planning to carry it up or down stairs. [1]

A 19.6 ft hose. Up to 14.7 ft of lift.

The pump discharges collected condensate through a hose. TheDryAir lists a 19.6 ft hose and a 14.7 ft vertical discharge height for the basic version. These describe different limits: hose length covers the entire route, while lift describes the vertical rise. [3]

The manual calls for fully uncoiling the hose and checking for blockages. It describes manual pump purging before moving or storing the unit. The older guide gives a 15 ft lift limit; this comparison uses the current listing figure of 14.7 ft. [4]

AlorAir Storm LGR Extreme controls

Basic control panel. Detail from a TheDryAir image.

The panel has power, menu, setting selection and manual drain controls. The manual describes job hours and lifetime hours, along with inlet and outlet air readings. [4]

Before use, the manual calls for inspecting the cord and checking the filter and coils for dirt. The MERV-8 filter is replaced as needed. Access to the pump reservoir requires removing the housing. [4]

Match the manual to the version. The current manufacturer listing specifies R32, while the older specification PDF describes R410A. The 2023 manual also gives conflicting humidity setting ranges. Request the manual for the version being supplied when ordering. [1][5]

What WiFi adds

Both versions are rated at 85 pints/day under AHAM conditions, with 210 CFM airflow and a built-in pump. WiFi adds app control; a higher moisture removal capacity is not specified for it. [1][2]

The app depends on the manufacture date on the data plate: AlorAir-R for units made before April 30, 2023, and AlorAir-Lite for units made on or after that date. The manufacturer warns of compatibility issues with some Android devices. Check app compatibility with your phone before paying extra for WiFi. [2]

If remote control is unnecessary, the published moisture removal ratings offer no reason to pay more for WiFi. For remote monitoring, the app needs its own assessment: I did not test connectivity for this review.

Six years, with different coverage

AlorAir’s updated limited warranty applies to orders placed on or after May 14, 2026, and includes purchases made in the preceding 30 days. For the Extreme, coverage is split into two periods. [7]

1-2years

Parts and labor

The policy also provides for unit replacement.

3-6years

Refrigeration system parts

Compressor, condenser and evaporator. Labor and transportation are excluded.

The warranty page separately describes shipping charges for returning a unit for inspection. Two years of full coverage should not be read as an unconditional promise of free shipping. Coordinate service with AlorAir before sending the unit back. [7]

The five-year schedule in the older manual does not reflect this update. A claim requires purchase details and the serial number; applicable terms depend on the purchase date and seller. [7]

Extreme or a wheeled model

The Storm 80X has wheels and a telescoping handle at a similar weight: 63.9 lb versus the Extreme’s 64.3 lb. Their AHAM ratings under the same conditions are 80 and 85 pints/day respectively. For movement around a jobsite, weigh the transport arrangement against that difference in rated capacity. [8]

Consider the Extreme basic when its dimensions and carrying handles fit the job. Paying extra for WiFi makes sense when remote control is needed and the app is compatible. For a comparison with renting, see rental costs and equipment availability.
