Commercial LGR dehumidifiers after water damage

What to compare beyond the pint rating on the box.

A dehumidifier removes water vapor from the air. Wet walls and floors need to dry before rebuilding. A pint rating alone cannot tell you how long that work will take.

Air and materials

Collected water does not prove a wall is dry.

I did not test these units. I compared published specifications from AlorAir, Dri-Eaz and Phoenix. Document conflicts are noted beside the relevant claims.

Assess the damage first

For sewage or other contaminated water, EPA advises using a professional experienced in cleaning and repairing this kind of damage. Do not run the HVAC system if you suspect it is contaminated with mold. Buying a machine does not establish that the work is safe. [1]

The source of incoming water also needs to be fixed. The guide to mold after a water leak covers the initial sequence. Equipment selection follows an assessment of the materials that need drying.

What LGR means

LGR stands for low-grain refrigerant. The term describes refrigerant dehumidifiers designed to continue removing moisture as the air gets drier. Restoration documents also use GPP: grains of moisture per pound of dry air. [2]

Low-humidity performance needs its own data. A rating at 80°F and 60% RH does not directly state water removal at 80°F and 20% RH. Comparing the later stages of drying requires ratings at those conditions or comparable performance curves. The label LGR or SLGR alone does not establish a winner.

Compare the same rating conditions

The published rating for Storm LGR Extreme is 85 pints per day at 80°F and 60% RH. Its 180-pint figure applies at 90°F and 90% RH. Storm 80X is rated at 80 and 170 pints per day under the respective conditions. [3]

For this comparison, AHAM means 80°F and 60% RH. Saturation means 90°F and 90% RH. The table headers state both conditions. These figures allow comparison of the published claims; they do not promise the same water collection in a damaged home.

Residential DOE ratings and other measurement points are covered separately in dehumidifier pint ratings explained. I do not convert a commercial saturation rating to DOE with a single multiplier.

Compact units by published specifications

CFM means cubic feet of air per minute. The figures below come from the current product pages. Revolution lists maximum airflow; Phoenix lists airflow without external ducting. These are not results from a common independent test.

Extreme, 80X and Revolution have different saturation ratings. At AHAM, their published capacities fall between 80 and 85 pints per day. I cannot infer floor-drying time or pump reliability from this table.

Dri-Eaz LGR 7000XLi sits above this group at 130 pints per day AHAM. It weighs a listed 106 lb and draws a listed 8.8 A. Comparing it with the compact Extreme requires those differences to be considered. The word commercial does not give them equal capacity or portability. [6]

Weight, transport and condensate drainage

Storm Extreme weighs 64.3 lb (about 29.2 kg) and has top carrying handles. The 80X weighs 63.9 lb (about 29 kg), with wheels and a retractable handle. Before choosing, check the route from the vehicle to the setup location: steps, turns, doorways and how you will move the unit. I put these practical limits beside the pint rating. [3]

For the wheeled 850X alternative, see Storm SLGR 850X vs LGR Extreme.

For Extreme, the seller lists a 19.6 ft drain hose and a 14.7 ft vertical drain height. Hose length and vertical lift are different limits. Check the allowed lift in the manual for the revision being supplied.

Power supply and model revision

Listed current helps with an initial comparison. It does not establish that two dehumidifiers and an air mover can share one household circuit. I have not calculated a safe number of connected devices. Before starting, check the power supply and the requirements in the manual for that specific unit.

Extreme document conflict. The current product page specifies R32. Its linked 2023 specification PDF describes R410A. I do not carry the old revision's limits over to the new one. Confirm the model and revision against the unit's nameplate, then obtain the matching manual. [7]

Filters and warranty terms

The product pages list MERV-8 for Extreme, MERV-1 for 80X and MERV-10 for DryMAX BLE. These are filter specifications for the listed versions. They do not establish safe air conditions after contaminated flooding.

Our accessory guide lists replacement filters for Storm models.

Compare warranty terms: what is covered, who pays for shipping and labor, and how a claim is handled. The AlorAir pages currently advertise a six-year limited warranty. I do not treat that as six years of free servicing. Obtain the current terms for the chosen seller and unit before buying.

How many units does a damaged home need?

An advertised coverage area does not determine the number of commercial LGR dehumidifiers needed after water damage. That requires information about wet materials and access to them, actual air conditions, followed by checks on drying progress. Without those measurements, I will not assign units per square foot or promise a recovery time.

Read how to check drying results for material readings and drying records.

Ask a contractor which measurements determine the equipment choice and how they will establish that the job is finished. Legend Brands describes setting a dry standard by comparison with similar undamaged materials. An RH reading on the dehumidifier does not prove a wall is dry. [2]

Rent or buy in Florida

For a one-time event, I would compare available local rental with buying equipment and hiring professional help. When will the equipment arrive? Who transports it? What is included, and who checks the drying process? These are my selection criteria. I have not calculated a payback period.

Home Depot has a drying and restoration equipment rental category. This establishes a rental channel. Check the specific model and availability for your dates with the local rental location. Delivery from an online seller also needs separate confirmation.

I used current product pages and manufacturers' technical documents, checked October 8, 2026. Specifications remain manufacturer claims. I did not test the units. This table does not establish drying times, reliability, electricity consumption or a safe number of devices on one circuit.
