Water-damage equipment · Documentation-based comparison

Storm SLGR 850X or LGR Extreme?

Two AlorAir dehumidifiers for restoration work after leaks and flooding. Both remove water vapor from the air and discharge condensate through a built-in pump.

Both are rated at 85 US pints per day under AHAM conditions. Their equipment differs: the SLGR 850X has wheels, a telescoping handle and Wi-Fi, while the Extreme basic has two carrying handles and onboard controls. [1] [3]

850X with Wi-Fi and Extreme basic

This comparison covers the yellow Storm SLGR 850X with Wi-Fi and the yellow Storm LGR Extreme basic. The shared manual lists three models: SLGR 850X, LGR 850X and LGR 850. The specifications below are for the SLGR 850X. [2] [3] [4]

02 · Moisture removal

Both rated at 85 pints under AHAM

Both units are rated at 85 pints per day at 80°F and 60% relative humidity. [1] [3]

Figures from current product listings. CFM means cubic feet per minute; lb means pounds. Current alone does not establish energy use over a drying job; that requires power and runtime data. [1] [3]

Both also carry a 180-pint daily rating, but the listed humidity conditions differ: AlorAir gives 90°F / 80% RH for the 850X, while TheDryAir gives 90°F / 90% RH for the Extreme. Those ratings are not directly comparable. [1] [3]

The 850X adds a precooling stage before the evaporator. AlorAir describes a heat exchanger that brings incoming air closer to its dew point before moisture condenses on the cold evaporator. The manufacturer says this technology helps remove moisture at low humidity. Beyond the published AHAM ratings, I did not find measurements comparing the 850X and Extreme at the same temperature and humidity. [1] [3] [4] [5] [6]

03 · The housing

Same height, different handling

The SLGR 850X is shorter and narrower than the Extreme. Both stand 17.3 inches high. Weight is close too: 63 and 64.3 lb, or about 29 kg each. The 850X has wheels for rolling it across a floor. [2] [3]

Storm SLGR 850X

Two wheels and a telescoping handle. The hose and power cord can be secured to the housing. [5]

Extreme basic

Two top carrying handles. The housing takes up more space in both length and width. [3] [6]

04 · Controls

App control on the 850X

The SLGR 850X supports app control over a 2.4 GHz network. The app depends on the unit's manufacturing date: AlorAir specifies AlorAir-R for units made before April 30, 2023, and AlorAir-Lite for units made on or after that date. Before buying, confirm the manufacturing date and check that the required app is available for your phone. [1]

The Extreme basic is controlled from its onboard panel. Both units display runtime and readings for inlet and outlet air. [4] [6] Checking walls and floors requires measurements of the materials themselves. See how to check whether materials are dry.

05 · Drainage

Automatic condensate pumping

The built-in pumps discharge accumulated condensate through a hose. The Purge button starts an additional pump-out, such as before moving or storing the unit. [4] [6]

850X: conflicting limits

The 2022 specification sheet lists a lift of up to 19.6 ft, while the 2023 manual limits the height of the hose outlet to 15 ft. [5] [4]

Extreme: hose length and lift

The product listing specifies a 19.6 ft hose and a 14.7 ft lift. The manual limits the hose outlet to 15 ft. Hose length does not mean water can be pumped to that height. [3] [6]

If your drain is above the unit, confirm the permitted lift for the exact version with the seller. This is particularly relevant to the 850X because its documents give different limits.

06 · Before ordering

Check the version and warranty

The current SLGR 850X listing specifies R32 refrigerant; the 2022 specification sheet lists R410A. Check the unit's label to establish which refrigerant it uses. [1] [5]

TheDryAir lists a six-year limited warranty. The first two years cover parts, labor and unit replacement. Years three through six cover refrigeration-system parts only, excluding labor and transportation. The update applies to orders from May 14, 2026, and also extends to purchases made during the preceding 30 days. Older manuals contain earlier terms, so keep the warranty terms that apply on your purchase date. [7]

07 · Choosing a model

Wheels and app control

You can roll the 850X using its telescoping handle and control it through an app. The Extreme basic has top handles for carrying and an onboard panel for changing settings.

Before ordering, compare prices and delivery dates, and check whether the pump can reach your drain. For a single water-damage job, you could also consider renting a restoration dehumidifier.
