Argendon Sandidry Elite 50C vs 60C vs 80C

Argendon Sandidry Elite dehumidifiers are wheeled units for workshops and restoration jobs. The 50C, 60C and 80C differ in water removal, power and airflow.

Rated water removal increases from the 50C to the 80C without a larger cabinet. Each model has a pump, wheels and the same humidity controls.

Argendon Sandidry Elite: uses and equipment

The Sandidry Elite 50C, 60C and 80C are designed to remove moisture from workshops and garages, as well as spaces undergoing renovation or water damage restoration. Each has a wheeled metal cabinet, a pull-out handle and a built-in pump. Capacity, power and airflow vary across the range. [1] [2] [3]

Other ranges are covered in our Argendon review; comparisons with other brands are in our dehumidifier guides.

How the 50C, 60C and 80C differ

The numbers 50, 60 and 80 in the model names match their listed AHAM water-removal ratings in US pints per day. The larger figures in the product titles, 110, 145 and 170 pints, refer to hotter, more humid conditions labeled saturation. [1] [2] [3]

AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) develops appliance test standards. Argendon uses the AHAM label for water removal at 80°F and 60% relative humidity (RH). The 60C and 80C specification sheets also state those conditions explicitly. Saturation in the Elite specifications means testing at 90°F and 90% RH: the units collect more water in warmer, more humid air. [1] [2] [3] [7] [11]

CFM measures the volume of air passing through the unit in cubic feet per minute. Airflow figures are from Argendon's catalog. [9]

The 50C and 60C have the same airflow but different water-removal ratings. Moving from the 60C to the 80C increases both: AHAM capacity rises from 60 to 80 pints/day, and airflow from 132 to 210 CFM. [1] [2] [3] [9]

An AHAM rating describes the test conditions. The separate AHAM Verifide program uses independent laboratory testing to check the claims of participating models. For the distinction, see our guide to AHAM ratings. [12]

Size and handling

The product listings give the same dimensions for all three models: 15.15 inches deep, 16.14 inches wide and 26.85 inches high. [1] [2] [3]

Two 8-inch wheels and a pull-out handle let the units roll across the floor. A rear cord wrap and a lower storage compartment hold the cable, hoses and accessories. [1] [2] [3]

Pump and gravity drainage

Each Elite supports both drainage methods. Argendon lists a pump lift of up to 19.6 feet for all three models and includes a 6.5-foot gravity hose in each product description. The 60C and 80C specification sheets also list a 19.6-foot pump hose. [1] [2] [3]

For pump drainage, seal the gravity outlet with its plug and enable Pump mode on the control panel. For gravity drainage, the hose end must not sit above the drain outlet. [4]

Humidity control: RH and GPP

All three control panels offer two ways to set humidity. In RH mode, the setpoint runs from 35% to 90% relative humidity in increments of one percentage point. This is the percentage shown by a room hygrometer. [4]

GPP (Grains Per Pound) expresses the mass of water vapor in grains per pound of dry air. Its setpoint range is 25 to 200 GPP in increments of 5, allowing control based on the air's moisture content. [4] [8]

Heating air without adding or removing moisture lowers RH but leaves GPP unchanged. During drying with changing temperatures, GPP helps distinguish a change in moisture content from the effect of heating. RH is useful for maintaining a target relative humidity. [4] [8]

The CO setting runs the unit continuously instead of stopping at a humidity setpoint. It is available in both RH and GPP modes. After a power interruption, the humidity, continuous-operation and pump settings are retained. [4]

What SLGR means

SLGR stands for Super Low Grain Refrigerant. Argendon uses the term for its refrigerant dehumidification technology intended to operate at low moisture content. Water condenses on the cold evaporator, then the air passes through the condenser and warms up. Argendon lists a microchannel aluminum condenser for all three Elite models. [1] [2] [3] [4] [10]

Filter and warranty

The three models use the same replacement Argendon MERV-1 filters: three-pack for the Elite 50C, 60C and 80C. [5] The filter slides out through the slot at the top of the cabinet. [4]

All three Elite models have a five-year limited warranty, with coverage changing over time. Argendon defines the refrigeration system as the compressor, condenser and evaporator. [4] [6]

Choosing between the 50C, 60C and 80C

For several units of your chosen model, see the Argendon Wholesale Pack quantities and prices, including spare filters and cost per dehumidifier.

Choosing by capacity and power
ModelReason to choose itTrade-off
50C [1]Lowest listed power of these three: 376 W. Includes the pump and GPP mode.Lowest rated water removal in the range. The cabinet is the same size as the higher-capacity models.
60C [2]Higher rated water removal than the 50C without a larger cabinet.Listed power is 89 W higher. Airflow remains the same as the 50C.
80C [3] [9]Highest rated water removal and airflow of these three Elite models, in the same cabinet size.Highest listed power: 576 W. No additional control modes over the 50C and 60C.

The higher-capacity models add performance. Drainage options, replacement filters and RH/GPP controls are shared across the range. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
