01 · Handling
About 64 lb each
The 80X weighs 63.9 lb; the Extreme weighs 64.3 lb. The 80X's wheels let you roll it, but loading or carrying it still means lifting about 29 kg. These figures do not establish that it is easier to carry on stairs. [1][2]

Images are not shown at the same scale.
The listed body height is 24.8 inches for the 80X and 17.3 inches for the Extreme. The Extreme is longer: 22.8 inches versus 15.2 inches. Compare all three dimensions against the space available for storage or transport. The selected specification table does not give the 80X's height with its handle fully extended. [1][2]
02 · Comparable ratings
AlorAir Storm 80X: 80 vs 85 pints at AHAM
At 80 °F and 60% relative humidity, the rated difference is 5 pints per day. At 90 °F and 90% RH, the ratings are 170 and 180 pints. These two rows describe different test conditions. They do not tell you how many hours faster either unit will dry a particular home.

Current manufacturer listings: 80X [1], Extreme [2]. Dimensions are length/depth × width × height. Current draw is not a measurement of daily energy consumption.
The materials I reviewed contain no comparable measurements of this pair in cold or dry air. Technology names and operating-temperature limits do not replace comparable test data. See how dehumidifier capacity is measured.
03 · Condensate drainage
Same hose length, different lift ratings
TheDryAir lists a 19.6 ft hose, about 6 m, for both models. It lists vertical lift of 19.6 ft for the 80X and 14.7 ft, about 4.48 m, for the Extreme basic. Hose length covers the entire route to the drain; lift describes the vertical rise. [3][4]
Product listing and specification
Manual: no higher than 19 ftTheDryAir listing
Older manual: 15 ftThe documents disagree, and I have not established why. If the drain is close to the stated lift limit, confirm the limit for the version being supplied before choosing on this specification. [5][6][7]
04 · Controls and consumables
Check the filter for the model
The current 80X listing and its replacement-filter page specify MERV-1. However, the maintenance section of the 80X manual refers to MERV-8. The manufacturer separately sells a 13.2 × 11.2 × 0.4 inch MERV-1 filter for the 80X. The current Extreme basic listing specifies MERV-8. [1][2][5][8]
The pump drains condensate automatically. The Purge button lets you trigger a pump-out manually. Both manuals describe run-time counters and inlet/outlet air readings. Accessing the pump requires removing the housing. [5][7]
This comparison covers the standard 80X and the Extreme basic. The 80X manual includes WiFi screens marked for the WiFi version; those screens do not establish that the selected product has WiFi. The Extreme is also sold in a separate app-controlled version, covered in the Storm LGR Extreme review.
05 · After purchase
The same warranty structure for both models
AlorAir's current limited warranty covers parts and labor, including possible replacement, during the first two years. Years 3-6 cover only refrigeration-system parts: the compressor, condenser and evaporator. Labor and transportation are excluded during that period. [9]
The update applies to orders from May 14, 2026, and purchases in the preceding 30 days. The older five-year terms in the manuals do not describe this new structure. The warranty page separately sets out shipping costs for inspection, so it does not support an unconditional promise of free shipping. [9]
06 · Choosing a body
Start with the route you will move it along
Storm 80X
The wheels and telescoping handle are designed for moving the unit across a floor. Storage needs clearance for its 24.8-inch body height. Allow for its 63.9 lb weight when loading it.
Extreme basic
The 17.3-inch body needs less vertical space. It is carried by its top handles. Storage requires more room lengthwise: 22.8 inches.
The extra 5 pints at AHAM do not settle the choice on their own. For equipment needed after a one-time leak, compare buying with renting and local availability. Other models are compared in the commercial LGR guide.

Sources checked October 9, 2026. For the 80X, I read all 16 pages of the manual and both specification pages. Product images were supplied through TheDryAir's affiliate catalog. I did not measure noise, electricity use or drying speed with these units.
