Galaxy 60 vs 60P vs 85P: which one?

Two 60-pint models. One 85-pint model. Two built-in pumps.

The Galaxy 60 drains by gravity. The Galaxy 60P adds a built-in pump at the same rated capacity. The 85P also has a pump, with a higher AHAM rating: 85 instead of 60 pints per day. The choice comes down to the moisture-removal capacity you need and where the condensate will go. [1][2][3]

Similar cabinets, different equipment

The Galaxy 60 has no built-in pump. The Galaxy 60P and 85P have pumps and retain a separate gravity-drain outlet.

60, 60 and 85 pints per day

At 80 °F and 60% relative humidity, the Galaxy 60 and 60P share the same 60-pint daily rating. The 85P is rated 25 pints higher. At 90 °F and 90% RH, the figures are 145, 145 and 180 pints respectively. Compare models within the same test-condition row. [1][2][3]

These ratings do not establish a drying time for a particular crawl space. The manufacturer lists coverage up to 1,800 sq. ft. for the 60/60P and 2,300 sq. ft. for the 85P, but those figures do not describe your property’s moisture load. Sizing needs site-specific conditions; see the crawl-space dehumidifier guide. For the differences between test conditions, see pint ratings explained.

The pump runs automatically

The Galaxy 60 needs a drain below the unit. The 60P and 85P provide separate gravity and pump outlets. Their shared manual describes automatic pump activation based on water level. A short press of Drain also starts a pump-out cycle; you do not need to press it for each operating cycle. [4][5]

The 60P/85P manual lists gravity drainage as the default mode. To use the pump, select pump mode and plug the gravity outlet. Before installing a long or high drain route, confirm the allowed lift: the figure of 19.6 ft in this document describes line length rather than an unambiguous vertical lift rating. [5] For general connection options, see dehumidifier drainage setup.

Same dimensions, different weights

The Galaxy 60 and 85P specifications and AlorAir’s 60P product page list the same dimensions: 21.3 × 11.7 × 14.1 inches (length × width × height). The 60 and 60P are listed at 47.5 lb, about 21.5 kg; the 85P at 57.3 lb, about 26 kg. The weight difference is approximately 9.8 lb (4.4 kg). [1][2][3]

Allow access for filter changes, hose connections and pump servicing on the P models, in addition to space for the cabinet. The manuals show a slide-out filter behind a side cover. Accessing the pump requires removing a side panel. [4][5]

Galaxy has its own wired controller

AlorAirCrawlspace sells the RF-KZQA04 controller with explicit compatibility for the Galaxy 60, 60P and 85P. It provides power control, humidity adjustment and temperature readings. It is a separate accessory for the Galaxy family. [6]

These models specify MERV-1 filtration. Replacement filter 160300269 lists the 60/60P/85P in its title, but only the 60 and 85P in its description. Confirm this part number with the seller before ordering it for a 60P. [7] For other supplies, see the AlorAir accessories guide.

Capacity first, then drainage

Galaxy 60

A 60-pint AHAM model with gravity drainage. Installation needs a downhill drain route from the unit.

Galaxy 60P

The same rated 60 pints, with a pump. Choosing it over the Galaxy 60 changes the drainage options, not the AHAM capacity.

Galaxy 85P

An 85-pint AHAM model, also with a pump. Consider it when a higher capacity rating is needed and its 57.3 lb weight is manageable.

For the smaller Sentinel pair with different cabinet dimensions, see HD55S vs HDi65S. Other product lines are covered in the AlorAir review.
