TempPro TP280B Weather Station: What It Shows

The TempPro TP280B weather station displays indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, measures air pressure and calculates a local weather forecast from changing conditions.

It includes a remote sensor and pressure history. The backlight can stay on continuously when the base uses external power.

What the TempPro TP280B weather station displays

The base measures indoor temperature and relative humidity, while a remote sensor sends the same readings from another location. Relative humidity, labeled RH, indicates how close the air is to saturation with water vapor at its current temperature. The center of the screen shows barometric pressure, its history graph and a weather forecast symbol. [1]

One remote sensor is included; the base supports up to three. The screen displays readings from the base and one selected remote sensor at a time. Press CH to switch channels, or use the automatic mode to cycle through them every three seconds. [1]

The MAX/MIN button recalls the highest and lowest temperature and humidity readings recorded since the last reset. Hold it for three seconds to clear those records. [1]

How the station forecasts the weather

The TP280B calculates its forecast from local temperature and barometric pressure changes over the previous 24 hours. It displays one of six symbols: sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rainy, thunderstorms or snow. The forecast covers the next 12 to 24 hours. The kit does not include wind-speed or rainfall sensors. [1]

During setup, press WEATHER to select the symbol that matches the current weather. The station then needs at least 24 hours to gather local data. The manual calls for this setup each time the device restarts. [1]

TempPro describes the forecast as approximately 70% accurate and says accuracy can be lower in extreme weather. This is the manufacturer's estimate; the manual does not describe the testing behind it. For hurricane and severe-weather warnings, use official reports. Our Florida weather page links to the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center. [1]

Pressure modes and history

ABSOLUTE shows the actual air pressure at the base. RELATIVE shows pressure adjusted to sea level. For relative pressure, enter the installation altitude in the SET menu. You can choose inches of mercury (inHg) or hectopascals (hPa); inHg is the default. [1]

The graph's 0h mark represents the current pressure. For example, the -3h column shows how pressure three hours ago differed from the current reading. The graph continually animates; the manual says this cannot be turned off. [1]

Power and continuous backlighting

The manual's component list includes the base, one remote sensor, a Type-C cable and five AAA batteries. The base uses three batteries and the sensor uses two. In a response to Aridalia's editorial inquiry received November 5, 2026, TempPro also confirmed that the TP280B remote sensor uses AAA batteries. [1] [3]

The component list includes the Type-C cable but does not list a separate USB wall adapter. [1]

Where to place the base and sensor

Keep the base indoors where air can circulate, away from direct sunlight, heaters and air-conditioning outlets. The remote sensor can go in another room or outside. For outdoor use, TempPro recommends a shaded, dry location protected from direct rain. Keep the sensor upright so rain cannot enter through the vents underneath. [1] [2]

The advertised radio range is up to 1,000 feet, approximately 300 meters. The product page specifies 77°F (25°C), no obstructions and no electromagnetic interference. Pair the sensor near the base first, then move it to the intended location and check reception. If the connection fails, the manual recommends pairing again or repositioning the devices. [1] [2]

Additional sensors must use different channels: 1, 2 and 3. The current manual specifies TX7B sensors for the US and Canada, and TX7C for Europe. [1]

Measurement ranges and accuracy

These manufacturer specifications come from the current TP280B manual for the version with an AAA-powered remote sensor. [1]

MeasurementManufacturer specification
Base temperature range-22 to 140°F (-30 to 60°C)
Remote temperature range-4 to 158°F (-20 to 70°C)
Temperature tolerance±0.5°F (±0.3°C) from 32 to 158°F (0 to 70°C); otherwise ±0.9°F (±0.5°C), within each unit's operating range
Relative humidity range10 to 99% RH
Humidity tolerance±2 percentage points from 20 to 80% RH; otherwise ±3 points

An older support article describes a rechargeable sensor with a lower limit of -40°F (-40°C). That figure also remains in one answer in the store's FAQ. For the AAA version, the current manual and specification table state -4°F (-20°C). [1] [2] [5]

When to choose the TP280B

Choose the TP280B if you want barometric pressure, a daily pressure graph and a local forecast alongside temperature and humidity readings.

If indoor and outdoor readings are enough, compare six TempPro models with remote sensors. For temperature and humidity history on a phone, with data export, see the TP350, TP357, TP358 and TP359 Bluetooth models.

TempPro's standard limited warranty is one year. Product registration extends it to three years and requires purchase information. [4]

Questions before buying

Why does the weather symbol differ from the weather outside?

The station displays a forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours. During setup, select the current weather using WEATHER and allow at least 24 hours for the station to gather local data.

Can the backlight stay on when using batteries?

No. On battery power, the backlight turns off after 15 seconds. Continuous lighting and four brightness levels are available when the base uses a USB power adapter.

How many sensors can connect to the TP280B?

Up to three remote sensors; one is included. The base also measures temperature and humidity. The screen shows the base and one selected remote channel.

What is stored for 12 hours and for 24 hours?

HISTORY recalls numerical barometric pressure readings from 1 to 12 hours ago. The graph shows pressure changes over the past 24 hours relative to the current reading.
