Argendon Shield 35M vs 35P and Sandidry Pro35C
Shield 35M and Shield 35P have low rectangular bodies with carrying handles. Sandidry Pro35C is taller and stands on small swivel casters. Before installing a unit under a house, check the available height and the crawl-space access opening. Dehumidifier guides cover other sizes and applications.

What the 35- and 70-pint ratings mean
AHAM stands for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. It develops test standards, including DH-1 for dehumidifiers. In these models' specifications, "35 AHAM" means a claimed water-removal capacity of 35 pints per day.
Both Shield specification sheets state the conditions for their 35-pint-per-day rating: 80°F and 60% relative humidity (RH). Sandidry Pro35C is also listed at 35 AHAM, but its rating does not state the test temperature or humidity. [1] [2] [3]
Saturation describes capacity in very humid air. All three models are listed at 70 pints per day; their specifications do not state the exact test conditions.
| Rating | Shield 35M | Shield 35P | Sandidry Pro35C |
|---|---|---|---|
| AHAM, pints/day | 35 80°F / 60% RH [1] | 35 80°F / 60% RH [2] | 35 Conditions not stated [3] |
| Saturation, pints/day | 70 Conditions not stated [1] | 70 Conditions not stated [2] | 70 Conditions not stated [3] |
The ENERGY STAR record 3998547 for Sandidry Pro35C lists 21.27 pints per day. This is a DOE (U.S. Department of Energy) rating at 65°F and 60% RH. Use this figure when comparing it with other portable models in ENERGY STAR. [6]
Actual water removal depends on temperature, humidity and moisture entering the space. How to choose a crawl-space dehumidifier.
Drainage: downhill by gravity or uphill with a pump
Shield 35M uses gravity drainage only. The hose must slope down to a drain below the outlet. [4]
Shield 35P and Sandidry Pro35C offer gravity drainage or a built-in pump. A pump is needed when water must rise to reach the drain. Argendon lists a lift of up to 19.6 feet for both models. [2] [3] [5]
The pump-equipped models have separate connections for the two drainage options. When using the pump, fit the stopper to the gravity outlet. [4] [5] Setup diagrams: gravity drainage and pumps.
How the controls differ
Shield 35M: rotary knob
The knob is marked at 30%, 50% and 70% RH, with continuous-operation and off positions. This model has no numerical humidity display. [4]
Shield 35P: digital panel
The panel displays humidity. The target can be set from 25% to 80% in steps of five percentage points. Continuous mode is also available. [4]
Sandidry Pro35C: top-mounted panel
The humidity setting also ranges from 25% to 80%, with a continuous mode. The panel is on top of the upright body, and its buttons can be locked against accidental presses. [5]
Both digital models also support GPP control, which uses moisture content measured in grains per pound of dry air. Select RH mode to set humidity as a percentage. [4] [5]
Dimensions and moving the units
CFM means cubic feet of air per minute.
| Specification | Shield 35M | Shield 35P | Sandidry Pro35C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dimensions, inches | 15.35 × 11.2 × 11.4 [1] | 15.2 × 11.2 × 11.4 [2] | 12.9 × 14.14 × 24.55 [3] |
| Weight, lb | 37.8 [1] | 38.18 [2] | 40.5 [3] |
| Moving the unit | Top carrying handle | Top carrying handle | Four small casters |
| Airflow | 115 CFM [1] | 115 CFM [2] | 180 CFM [3] |
Shield dimensions are listed as length × width × height. The Sandidry Pro35C specification does not label the order of its dimensions. Shield 35P dimensions and weight are from the product page; its PDF lists 15.35 × 11.2 × 11.4 inches and 39.7 lb. [2]
The 11.4-inch-tall Shield models can fit in spaces where the upright Sandidry Pro35C, about 24.6 inches tall, cannot. Leave the inlet and outlet clearances required by the manual, plus access to the filter and drain.
Sandidry Pro35C has small casters for rolling across a level, hard floor.
Remote control, hanging kit and maintenance
The manufacturer offers one hanging kit for both Shield 35M and Shield 35P. A wired remote is sold separately for Shield 35P, allowing control from outside the crawl space. The current remote listing explicitly excludes Shield 35M and does not list Sandidry Pro35C as compatible. [7]
All three specifications list a MERV-1 filter. MERV is a filter-efficiency classification. Find compatible Argendon filters, controls and replacement parts.
Covering exposed crawl-space soil with a vapor barrier reduces moisture evaporation. Material options: Argendon vapor barrier comparison.
Which model to choose
- Shield 35M: for a low installation space with a downhill drain, if the rotary-knob settings meet your needs.
- Shield 35P: for a similarly low space when you need a built-in pump, digital humidity settings or a wired remote.
- Sandidry Pro35C: where a taller body fits and casters are useful, such as moving between rooms with level floors.
