Getting the equipment
Local rental or delivery from a seller
Home Depot has a drying and restoration equipment rental category. [2] Confirm the available model and pickup time with the Florida location you plan to use.
For a purchase, request an arrival date for your ZIP code. TheDryAir's shipping policy separates order processing, dispatch and transit. Shipping today does not confirm arrival today. [3]
If you can collect a suitable rental before a purchased unit would arrive, that supports renting for the current job. The reverse is also possible: no local rental is available, but a suitable unit is for sale with pickup. Both options require confirmation that the equipment is available and suitable.
If the extent of damage is unknown, also request a contractor's estimate. Ask for equipment rental, labor and drying checks to be itemized separately.
For the broader equipment range, see the dehumidifier guide.
If you need a dehumidifier after a hurricane
After widespread damage, a local rental location may have no units available. In its account of the response to Hurricane Ian in 2022, Aramsco mentions previous equipment shortages. For Ian, the company had expanded its dehumidifier and air-mover fleet and reported equipment available in Florida. Availability depends on the individual supplier's stock and incoming deliveries. [10]
For the current job, confirm a suitable model, a pickup date and the charge for the period you need. A rate posted online does not mean a unit is available.
A dehumidifier purchased ahead of time reduces dependence on rental availability. Buying after the hurricane still depends on stock and delivery: Aramsco also notes that storm conditions can limit equipment available for purchase. [11]
Comparing the options
Rent vs buy restoration equipment: after the job
A rental unit goes back under the rental agreement. A purchased unit stays with its owner. Include repeat work, such as maintaining several properties, when calculating the cost of buying. Having a unit on hand for another water leak is a separate reason to purchase ahead of time.
| What to compare | Rental | Purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Starting work | Local availability, pickup or delivery | Availability of the selected version, delivery or pickup |
| Use period | Billing period and extension terms | The current job and identified future jobs |
| Additional costs | Transport, applicable fees and consumables | Delivery, consumables, maintenance and storage |
| Equipment failure | Replacement and billing adjustment terms | Service procedure and a source for a temporary replacement |
| After drying | Return condition and closing the rental | Preparation for storage under the manual |
On a narrow screen, scroll the table horizontally. Use these items to compare offers; the supplier's agreement sets the actual charges and responsibilities.

Florida price examples
Published rates checked October 9, 2026. All prices in US dollars.
| Supplier and location | Model | Daily | Weekly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everlast Cleaning Supply Fort Lauderdale [7] | Revolution LGR or Phoenix Drymax LGR | $45 | $270 |
| Florida Storm Supplies Clermont / Winter Garden [8] | Phoenix 200MAX LGR | $70 | $300 |
| All Tool Rental Hollywood [9] | Model not specified in the listing | $77 | $306 |
For purchase context, TheDryAir lists the Storm LGR Extreme basic Yellow and Storm 80X Red at $799.11 each. These are product-page prices; discounts, delivery and taxes determine the final checkout total. [4]
Everlast's weekly rate is $270, while seven days at $45 would total $315. For a week-long rental, use the weekly offer in your calculation and confirm its terms.
These are different models. Select equipment suitable for the job before comparing costs. Ask the rental supplier about taxes, delivery, additional fees, the deposit and extension terms.
For rental, request the total for the expected period and the cost of extending it. Check how partial periods are billed and when charges stop. If the supplier collects the unit, ask whether waiting for collection affects the final bill.
For purchase, include the selected version, delivery and applicable taxes. Then add the accessories needed for the job. Include electricity in both options; rated current alone does not establish actual energy use for the entire drying job.

Purchase
Equipment you own
Order total + accessories + maintenance and storage costs.
Record a refundable deposit separately from final costs. Check the conditions for deductions and the refund timing. If paid damage protection is offered, review its coverage and exclusions.
For repeat jobs, add up rental costs over a chosen period and compare them with buying and maintaining a suitable unit over the same period.
Check the equipment and the route to the room
Request the exact dehumidifier model, its manual and a list of included items. Check the drain hose, its condition and the drainage requirements. Ask about material moisture meters and other equipment as separate items. The water-damage equipment guide explains their roles.
Compare water-removal ratings at the same test conditions. A pint figure in an advertisement without temperature and relative humidity is insufficient. See the commercial LGR dehumidifier guide for details.
Transport matters too. TheDryAir lists the Storm LGR Extreme basic at 64.3 lb, about 29.2 kg, and the Storm 80X at 63.9 lb, about 29 kg. The Extreme has top handles; the 80X has wheels and a telescoping handle. These examples show different ways of moving units with similar weights. [4]

Before ordering, check vehicle loading, steps and doorways. In a condominium, include elevator access and the building's delivery rules. Wheels do not solve stair access. Follow the power requirements in the manual for the exact unit received.
Ownership includes the time between jobs
Decide where the unit will be stored and who will maintain it. Request the current manual from the seller for cleaning, filter care and storage preparation. Read any advertised warranty period alongside its coverage terms.
Ask who pays for service shipping and labor, where to report a failure and whether consumables are available for the selected version.
For rental, ask what to do if the unit fails on site, whether a replacement is available and how returns work. Record the condition and included items at pickup. Resolve any observed defect with the supplier before starting work.
Use moisture checks to plan the return
EPA says materials need to dry before walls and floors are refinished. Legend Brands' guidance compares moisture measurements in damaged materials with similar, unaffected areas. [5] [6]
Confirm who takes those measurements and records the results. Air humidity on a dehumidifier display does not establish that a wall or floor is dry. The rental period chosen in advance is not a drying completion criterion either.
Before signing the agreement, confirm the extension charge in case drying takes longer.
Request two comparable offers
Give the supplier the address or ZIP code, planned start date and access conditions. For equipment selection, provide the available information about the damage and identify missing details.
- Equipment. Exact model, version, manual and included accessories.
- Availability. Confirmed date and method of delivery or pickup.
- Total cost. Applicable charges separated from a refundable deposit; rental extension and return terms.
- Support. Replacement after failure, service terms and responsibility for drying checks.
With suitable equipment and confirmed availability on both sides, you can compare the offers. A one-time rental avoids subsequent storage. Buying leaves a unit for future work, but its financial value depends on your own cost calculation.
