35-Pint Dehumidifiers: One Number, Different Machines
A 35 pint dehumidifier is the most common size on the shelf for a bedroom or a condo, and the number guarantees very little. In the federal ENERGY STAR registry, units sold in this bracket carry tested capacities from 31.71 to 36.9 pints per day and burn between 335 and 388 kWh a year. Roughly 16% of spread in both directions, behind one figure on the carton. The bracket is a place on the shelf rather than a specification.
What sits behind the number 35
Capacity on the box and capacity in the registry come from different test conditions. Manufacturers quote 95 °F and 90% relative humidity; DOE tests at 65 °F and 60% under 10 CFR Part 430, Appendix X1. In this class the gap is milder than in the larger sizes, and the printed number is still a rounded label.
Inside the bracket sit several genuinely different machines. Registry capacities run 31.71, 32.0, 32.46, 33.13, 35.2, 35.3, 35.32, 35.78, 35.85, 35.94, 36.18, 36.39, 36.71 and 36.9 pints per day. Those are not trim levels of one model. They are separate designs with different compressors, collapsed into a single marketing label.

Who this class is for
One or two rooms: a bedroom, an office, a condo, a small apartment. A 35 pint dehumidifier is the right size where 50 pints would be more machine than the job needs, and where the difference in noise and running cost shows up every day.
The Florida angle matters more here than in the larger classes. Noise is the most frequent complaint theme in our Florida review slice, raised in 15.6% of Florida reviews against 9.9% from owners in other states. The reason is runtime. A unit in this climate does not switch off for the season, so the sound becomes background to the house rather than an episode.

Read it top to bottom and the spread is the point. The most efficient record in the class is the Arecovas AR-DF005 at an IEF of 2.15; the hungriest is the Keystone KSTAD354G at 388 kWh a year, on a larger capacity.
What to compare besides the number
Who filed the certification. One machine under several badges is standard practice in this class as well. The Yoau/Shinco/UHOME filer lists 35.0 pints at an IEF of 2.02 under seven separate model codes. Drainage. A smaller tank does not mean less water over a week, because the runtime is the same. Florida owners report a full tank twice as often as owners in other states, 13.0% of reviews against 6.5%, and mention a built-in pump least of all, 0.9% against 1.4%. Decide how the unit will drain before you buy it.
Electricity. Fifty-three kilowatt-hours a year looks like small change and matters here for one reason: the machine runs all year. IEF compares models directly, and a higher figure means fewer kilowatt-hours per litre of water removed.
